Thomas Berry, Brian Swimme, Joanna Macy, and others, transformed the study of ecology from a very immediate-focused and circumstantial science into a long-time-scale integrated consideration of deep dynamic forces that repeat on different scales, creating and unifying the Theater of All Beings in the various relationships that connect us. We are exploring a connected facet of the same prism here... Deep Ecology implies a Deep Paranormal, an underlying architecture of strange reality that augments our commonly perceived world (our workaday sensory Umwelt), a terrain that operates and evolves in accordance with its own reasons and dynamics.
We begin with understanding that we inhabit these coextensive and permeating realities simultaneously... that the distinction between the normal (mundane) and paranormal worlds evaporates like the lifting veil, the closer we look. We begin with understanding, then, that we are paranormal beings ourselves.
When we set aside expectations, impatience, and our conformal habits, and allow ourselves to perceive and inhabit other archetypes, we open the portal to direct experience and participation in the expanded reality of this strange and wonderful Universe. We become aware that mysterious events and conjurings are telling their own stories, following their own relationships. These stories don't necessarily map onto the human stories that we are so used to telling... and yet, we hold roles in them as well.
On Sunday, October 29, we will meet in Hays Woods to set a ritual space, open our perceptions to other ways of knowing, give ourselves permission to inhabit other ways of being, and patiently witness the Great Mystery manifest around us and within us, as we invite it.
We will work with breath, movement, listening silence, sigil magic, theater, drum journey, and more, to open the doors of perception/participation to the Deep Paranormal.
Suitable for Ages 12 and up (mature participation is expected). Wear clothing that allows you to move and participate in the forest with spontaneity (walking, crawling, slithering, dancing, sitting), and that expresses your magical being. Bring offering gifts or tokens to the Theater of All Beings and the Presence of the Woods. Wear comfortable shoes (or barefoot), and be prepared to enter about 1/2 mile into Hays Woods. Bring your water bottle.
This ritual space will be held by Gavain U'Prichard and Kristin Pomykala, who together carry decades of experience in group journeying, magic, metaphysical philosophy and science, and breathwork, bodywork, meditative tradition and gnosis. We will all hold this journey as a safe space together.
We look forward to embarking on this experiment with you. Meet us at the parking pad at the trailhead into Hay's Woods (at the end of Agnew Street) at 5 p.m. A donation of $5-20 helps us continue offering these events. Thank you!
