What is the Agency?

Welcome to The Agency of metaphysical, scientific, cosmological, symbolic investigation into Reality, both normal and paranormal. Our aim: to better comprehend and participate in the interconnected reality that permeates our sensory Umwelt and extends greatly beyond it, beyond our habitual illusions, delusions, misperceptions.

We work to directly experience, establish evidence for and implications of, three fundamental hypotheses:

1.) Sentience is everywhere. Systematic self-awareness is present in structures manifest throughout the larger architecture of universal signal processing. We are not alone.

2.) Everything is interconnected. Everything affects and changes everything else. The “indifferent background” to foreground activity is an illusion.

3.) Anything exists physically if and only if it signals symbolically significant data to recipient aspects of a coordinating system. Objects exist in a web of dynamic relationships which constantly redefine them and change their phenomenological "transparency." Thus, objects are simultaneously both what they appear to be and not what they appear to be.

There will be whole sections of this blog to address each of these three axiomatic hypotheses, but let's focus here on what happens when we live by these three statements as a creed.

If you live as if these are true, then:

  • you matter
  • everything that exists is responsive to you, and you are responsive to everything
  • you are never alone
  • everything is crucial to reality
  • creativity and destruction work hand-in-hand
  • you have several lives
  • you have lifetimes of untapped capacities and relationships within you
  • you don't truly have free will
  • you don't have to decide what to do, you only need to be deeply responsive
  • you can channel immense power
  • you can live without regret
If these are all true on a personal scale, then they are also true on a different scale, the collective scale. These apply to communities as well.

In these corollaries, we find the way to overcome six obstacles to caring, courageous, confident action (passion-perfect action). We hold true that all of us are, in our secret, private lives, experiencing super-normal events. We also take as self-evident (maybe secret) truth that we all care about something passionately when the circumstantial capacity is granted to us. Within the framework of the three proposed hypotheses, even self-interest transforms and extends into a force that takes the greater picture into its embrace.

So...what, then, are the six obstacles to passion-perfect action?

  • The mirror of insignificance (non-caring fragmentation)
  • The inertia of apparent randomness (disorganization)
  • Adversarial superiority (apparent world-ending checkmate victory)
  • Attempted continuity of identity
  • The illusion of absolute moral idealism (inflexibility and the fear of regret)
  • The fear and sadness of Time (obsession with grief and loss)
We will explain each of these stumbling-blocks in a separate article. Yet, here's the point: You are infinite. These obstacles that sap our energy that exhaust us, that rob us of enthusiasm and hope, that poison our mood and action with fear, that substitute a paper doll version of ourselves for our full and infinite capacity... these obstacles don't have to be fought! We don't need to expend ourselves waging battle! They fall apart on their own! All we need to do is position ourselves in the midst of the direct experience that results from the three hypotheses, and the obstacles dissolve without effort. There is a mode of being and doing which flows directly from immersion in the reality which is sounded by these three hypotheses.

Finding this state of being is what Aleister Crowley sign-posted in expressing the one law as "Do What Thou Wilt is the whole of the law." This is also what Mahatma Gandhi indicated in declaring "Be the World You Want to See." It is what the prophet Jesus of Nazareth called the Kingdom of Heaven, meaning that is right here, congruent with Earthly reality, yet the entrance is narrower than the eye of a needle. (And, if it's at all related to the Brazillian Sete Alem ("Seven Beyond"), then we know that the entrance can arise suddenly -- within our experience -- and unpredictably, vaporously.)

So...how can it be both effortless and without fight and yet difficult?

It's only difficult because we are instinctually programmed, not to face the truth, but to survive the assumed danger. We are constantly immersed in a survival algorithm which filters out vast quantities of information relevant to our existence, nature, and identity, instead highlighting change of strategic significance and threat. We are fundamentally programmed to behave very impatiently.

For at least four million years, we have been the product of an ambush-fear mentality.
